Sound Designer, Audio Producer & Educator
Sound design for games, film, broadcast, immersive media and music-led storytelling.

I’m Giovanni Sipiano, a London-based sound designer, producer, mix engineer, audio engineer and educator working across music production, games audio, broadcast, post-production and immersive media.

My background spans more than three decades of professional audio work across both the music and sound industries, oh my word! I originally developed through music production, recording and engineering, working extensively in studio environments before expanding further into sound design, post-production, broadcast and interactive media. That combination of musicality, engineering and cinematic sound has remained central to the way I approach audio ever since.

As a producer, mix engineer and engineer, I have worked across recording, mixing, editing and production for a wide range of projects and artists, developing a workflow that combines traditional studio craft with modern digital production techniques. I still maintain a strong connection to music production and composition, particularly where music, texture, atmosphere and sound design begin to overlap. My background in synthesis, arrangement, recording and analogue studio practice continues to inform all aspects of my work, including cinematic and game audio.

Alongside music production, I have worked in sound design and post-production for broadcast productions, radio drama, documentary and commercial work, as well as more recent projects within the games industry, including cinematic sound design contributions for major titles. I am particularly interested in the relationship between sound, movement, narrative and emotion, whether through detailed environmental sound design, procedural systems, foley performance, restoration, dialogue editing, immersive audio, or experimental sonic work. I love the strange space where technical precision meets creativity and happy accidents.

Alongside industry practice, I teach sound design, recording, post-production, DAWs, game audio, mixing and audio production at degree and postgraduate level. My teaching work keeps me deeply engaged with evolving technologies and production methodologies, while continued industry work ensures my practice remains grounded in real-world creative and technical workflows.

Technically, I work across a broad range of tools and production environments like Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Wwise, FMOD, Unreal Engine and Unity, alongside extensive experience with synthesis, field recording, analogue hardware, dialogue editing, restoration and immersive formats including Dolby Atmos. I’m equally happy deep inside a complicated routing setup, experimenting with bizarre sound sources, or obsessing over simple cassette machines and experimental hardware.

I also enjoy making electronic toys such as synths and controllers to irritate my wife who “hates my f-ing projects!” apparently…

Outside of audio, I’m an avid Star Trek fan, a synthesis obsessive, and someone who genuinely enjoys talking about sound far more than is probably healthy.

If you’re working on a project and feel like my mix of technical experience, creative sound work and slightly obsessive enthusiasm might fit, feel free to get in touch. Whether it’s music production, mixing, sound design, post-production, games audio, teaching, collaboration or something strange that doesn’t fit neatly into a category, I’m always interested in hearing about new ideas and interesting projects.

what are you doing with that plant? You very strange man…
